A surprise display of the aurora borealis, as seen from a friend's camp near Canoe Point on St. Joseph Island.
I normally monitor space weather conditions to find out when auroras might be visible, but I had no idea this was coming. We were drinking around a campfire on the beach at around 2 AM when someone pointed to the north and asked if what they were seeing was the northern lights. Sure enough, it was the start of a great display that lasted until dawn. Location of photograph: [link] |
