Artist's Comments

Here we have my third attempt at photographing star trails. This was a 12 minute exposure taken at a friend's camp at Canoe Point on St. Joseph Island in July, 2005.

Hot pixels proved to be a major problem in the darker areas of this shot, and so I had to perform some extensive noise removal, both manually and with automated software. This is why the sharpness might be a bit lacking in some areas of the image. Still, given the extremely poor quality of the original image, I'm quite happy with how this turned out.

The swirling effect of the stars is really awesome... beautiful shot.

"Is it pertinent?"
"Not even close."

This is surely a most amazing and impressive image. My biggest 'problem' with it is the sloping horizon. But maybe you were on a hill :-)

This would look great blown up and printed HUGE.

to me the horizon is ok and the star trails are great.
what i dont like is the noise removal (expecially on the sand).

you sure the noise version is worse?
maybe you could select the less-noisy channel and make a BW picture out of it...
maybe...
:)

Interesting star trails and lovely idea. Im not too keen on the sand at the front. I guess that is where you removed the noise from?

I think that you don't have to worry about nothing on this photo. To me, this piece is just great, because i know how difficult this kind of photography could be :)
